'Blink-182 is like eternal youth,' said Barker. 'Mark and I never wanted to change.'

According to Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, their departed singer, author, and alien truther Tom DeLonge wanted to turn the band into Coldplay or U2.

In a new interview with Mr. Wavvy (“your daily dose of awkward”), Barker cites the unfortunate influence of DeLonge’s soaring side-project Angels and Airwaves on his later days with the pop-punk trio.

“I think Blink is like eternal youth,” said Barker. “Mark and I never wanted to change. The last couple of albums, Tom wanted to sound like U2; to record songs that basically sound like Coldplay.”

“For us, we were always like, ‘Blink is Blink, man. We want to sound like fucking Blink-182,'” he continued. “That’s why we’re in this band… I never want any of my other side projects to influence Blink. I love Blink for what it is.”

Listen to the interview below:

Barker and Mark Hoppus are currently working on a new Blink-182 album with DeLonge’s replacement, Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio. Will it end up sounding like Kenny G, Adele, or Lionel Richie? Only time will tell.
