The Rolling Stones guitarist to Trump: 'One of us is leaving the building – either him, or us.'

While Donald Trump has a few musical supporters (Aaron Carter, Slipknot’s Dick Nose, the USA Freedom Kids) it’s pretty clear that Keith Richards isn’t a fan.

The evidence dates back to 1989 in a story shared by Salon. On that year’s successful Steel Wheels comeback tour following a lengthy hiatus, the Rolling Stones booked a show at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall sponsored by Donald Trump. The only condition was that the future Republican presidential candidate couldn’t be involved in the promotion… or even attend the concert.

Of course, Donald Drumpf didn’t live up to his promise and decided to bust into the band’s press conference uninvited. The Stones’ tour manager Michael Cohl told Pollstar that Trump was asked to leave but then returned five minutes later. According to Cohl, when Keith Richards saw what was happening “he pulls out his knife and slams it on the table and says, ‘What the hell do I have you for? Do I have to go over there and fire him myself? One of us is leaving the building – either him, or us.’”

Things got a bit hairier for the mysteriously coiffed candidate as Cohl shared the threatening actions of Trump’s entourage: “Three shtarkers he’s with, in trench coats, two of them are putting on gloves and the other one is putting on brass knuckles.” The Rolling Stones’ head of security responded in kind by calling for his own backup: “40 of the crew with tire irons and hockey sticks and screwdrivers.”
