"They wanna be in a punk band," said Stefani of the No Doubt/AFI supergroup.

Considering the “uh-WHUUUUUT??” reaction to the news that members of No Doubt (minus Gwen Stefani) would be joining forces with AFI singer Davey Havok, it’s safe to say the collaboration has taken music fans by surprise.

Turns out no one was more surprised than Stefani herself. How’s this for awkward: the No Doubt singer found out about her bandmates’ new project the same way we did – via the internet.

In a vaguely uncomfortable segment of her Jimmy Kimmel Live interview,  the host brings up the new band and jokes “I hope this isn’t the first you’re hearing about it,” to which Stefani replies “I actually first heard about it on the internet, so it’s funny you say that.”

Her words and face keep it classy, God bless her, but Stefani’s eyes say “way to make me look like a chump, dicks.” She clarifies for Kimmel that she hasn’t been replaced in No Doubt (as he mistakenly thought) before somewhat dismissively explaining that it’s a side-project and they “wanna be in a punk band.”

Call me crazy, but I think the next No Doubt band meeting is going to be mighty tense.
