Did the murdered beauty pageant star become a pop star? The answer will not surprise you.

The dark corners of the Internet are awash in a multitude of conspiracy theories, some more plausible (Russia’s lost cosmonauts) than others (everything David Icke says).

Now, paranoia enthusiasts have a new outlandish speculation to latch onto: a recently resurfaced YouTube video claims that Katy Perry is actually a grown-up JonBenét Ramsey, the six-year-old child beauty pageant star who was supposedly murdered in 1996.

In the video, originally uploaded in December 2014 by one “Dave Johnson”, urges viewers to “stop being Liars for the system” and makes the bold, rambling claim that Ramsey’s parents hoaxed the world with the death of their daughter, assumed new identities, and transformed JonBenét into Katy Perry in order to… I’m not sure, maybe John Bennett Ramsay just needed a star performer to sing his opus, “California Gurls”?

Embrace the madness, if you dare:

“JonBenet Ramsey became Katy Perry, that’s a fact.” Welp, I’m convinced. Never mind the superimpositions at the end there, you had me at “Masonic play.”

At no point does Johnson address the numerous implausibilities in his theory, including the fact that JonBenét’s mother Patsey Ramsey died in 2006 of ovarian cancer, while Perry’s mother is still alive, not to mention that JonBenét would be be 25 today while Katy Perry is 31.

All in all, pretty unconvincing. Get back to me when you’ve finally proven Rihanna is a lizard.
