PREMIERE: Watch Jef Barbara's new video for "A Perfect Day"

Montreal nu-disco wunderkind Jef Barbara is rolling out a new 7″ on Fixture Records in the spring. Those tunes will pop up in the coming months, but for now Barbara has dropped a new video for their cover of UK new wave band Rexy’s song “A Perfect Day”, which originally appeared on the label’s latest compilation.

Somehow even dreamier and spacier than the 1981 original, Barbara’s version of “A Perfect Day” manages to bridge the gap between Rexy’s spiky charm and Jef’s brand of slinky, modernized DIY disco. The Tyler Reekie-directed video sees Barbara and a few compatriots on a sunny quest though some of their Montreal haunts to get some pizza. Also featuring: a quadcopter drone and (fittingly) the best video wipe technology of 1981.

To tie it all together, Rexy’s original album Running out of Time will also be reissued in March on Stephanie Urbani’s new label URU.
