Montreal’s Freelove Fenner are masters of the jangle-pop form, delivering understated hits with assembly line precision. Shunning modern technology in favour of their all-analog basement studio the Bottle Garden, the trio tinkers with tape machines, tube synths and oscillators to deliver a songbook split somewhere between the Brill Building and the Radiophonic Workshop. The video for “In The Sound” showcases the band’s m.o. with a fittingly textural mix of Super 8 and Ektachrome film, as singer Caitlin Loney hovers in and out of focus. This song offers a taste of the band’s upcoming LP, Do Not Affect A Breezy Manner, named for a line from Strunk & White’s The Elements of Style (natch). Pre-orders of the LP from Fixture Records come bundled with a bonus 12-inch split collecting Freelove Fenner’s two previous sold-out releases. Don’t be breezy!
