'Making A Murderer' subject's brother releases Christian rap song about case

If you’re like most people, you’ve either already seen the wildly popular Netflix documentary series Making a Murderer or are powering through it right now, sticking your fingers in your ears and yelling ‘la la la’ whenever one of your friends brings it up.

We promise there won’t be any spoilers here (there can be spoilers even if it’s a true story, right?), but what we will share is nearly as bizarre as the story itself. It turns out that Brad Dassey, the half-brother of Brendan Dassey, one of the men accused in the case, is an aspiring Christian rapper – and he’s just dropped a track about the two men charged titled “They Didn’t Do It.” Listen below:

Now, if you think Dassey (on the right in the above picture – his half-brother Brendan is on the left) doesn’t particularly look like your typical rapper, listening to the track may unfortunately cement your initial impression. While his timing is pretty on point (and to be honest, puts that of many semi-popular rappers to shame), his flow and production is, well, not great. As for the lyrics… well here are a few choice lines:

“Things clearly showed that it was just a joke/cops were only there just to prod and poke.”

“He’s suspicious? She’s suspicious! Everybody thinks these two just did it.”

And a personal favourite:

“Everything’s just a sham/lock, boom, bam/….GUN!'”

MC prowess notwithstanding, the show’s popularity has resulted in a predictable upswing of Brad Dassey’s online recognition (or at least that of the song). The track had nearly 10,000 plays at the time of this article (with 3,000 in the space of 30 minutes), and on Facebook the rapper shared that USA Today, TMZ, and The Daily Beast have all contacted him.

While it’s not too likely the track will add anything to the debate about Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey’s innocence, Brad’s opinion is certainly on the record now (he thinks they didn’t do it).
