The rift from a miffed Swift over Spotify's thrift takes a weird shift.

Taylor Swift proved herself a savvy businesswoman once again last year, when she withdrew her music from streaming platform Spotify, spurring on six million worldwide sales of the album 1989 in 2014 alone. Swift’s been pretty staunch about never ever getting back together with the Swedish site… aside from her contributions to film soundtracks. She famously took issue with her music’s mandatory presence in Spotify’s free tier, as well as streaming services undervaluing musicians in general.

It’s odd, then, that her song “I Knew You Were Trouble” from her 2012 album Red recently appeared on the streaming site. Even weirder: the song was credited to Welsh rockers Lostprophets, whose career, as we all remember, took quite the turn awhile back.

Uploaded by user Jared Brown back in October, the falsely-attributed “I Knew You Were Trouble” racked up almost 40 million plays (due to being linked to the legitimate song) before Spotify pulled it down. Canadian connection: the uploaded artwork was a still from YTV cartoon Scaredy Squirrel, for some reason.

A Spotify spokeswoman said that the situation was “very weird” and “the track was taken down as soon as it was discovered.” I’m sure Swift is pleased at the quick response, as being affiliated with Lostprophets these days is not, uh, good branding.
