The Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver singer passed away at 48.

Alternative rock icon Scott Weiland has passed away at age 48. A post on his Facebook page confirmed the information early Friday morning (December 4).

“Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts. At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected.”

Dave Navarro of Jane’s Addiction and the Red Hot Chili Peppers was one of the first to share the news of Weiland’s passing.

Weiland performed with hew new band The Wildabouts at Toronto’s Adelaide Hall on Tuesday, December 1. Watch a short video from that show below:
