Everyone from Blink-182 to Kid Koala to Weird Al have been awakened by the force.

On December 18, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will open in movie theatres, no doubt destroying box office records the same way the Death Star destroyed Alderaan.

There’s a new hope for the seventh film in the Star Wars franchise. Now firmly in Disney Corp’s Yoda-like guiding hands, there’ll be presumably less shitty allegories about how our modern political systems are corrupt and broken and more wicked lightsaber fight sequences. Also, hopefully less Jar Jar Binks.

What there will also be — besides a new generation of memes, catchphrases and cosplay outfits — is a rich opportunity for musical inspiration. Star Wars has always had the ability to magnetically capture the imaginations of musicians from across various scenes and eras. We took this opportunity to look back at some of the weirdest, wildest and most wonderful songs from the past inspired by Star Wars characters.

Blink-182 – “A New Hope (Princess Leia)”

This song is basically an admission of “we had crushes on Princess Leia when we were teenagers.”

Stinkmitt – “Jabba Tha Slut”

Peaches-approved electro smutsters Stinkmitt envision an alternate Jabba.

Caustic Window (a.k.a Aphex Twin) – “R2-D2”

Aphex Twin is the best known of a legion of beatmaking musicians including Jamie Lidell, Demarkus Lewis, and Da Kangol Kid who’ve made songs inspired by R2-D2.

Zammuto – “F U C3PO”

Right? Tell that fussy stuck-up can to screw off.

Supernova – “Chewbacca”

This was on the Clerks soundtrack and sounds exactly like 1994.

Queens Of The Stone Age – “These Aren’t The Droids You’re Looking For”

These aren’t the droids we’re looking for.

Kid Koala – “Dinner With Yoda”

Apparently dinner with Yoda has lots of scratching.

Weird Al Yankovic – “The Saga Begins”

Darth Vader’s history set to the tune of Don McLean’s “American Pie.” Weird Al is a God.

Bill Murray – “Star Wars”

Not quite Weird Al, is it?

Ash – “Cantina Band”

Star Wars obsessed Irish alt-rockers Ash cover the song played by the weird alien band in the Mos Eisley cantina on Tatooine.

The Presidents of the United States of America – “Death Star”

Apparently The Presidents of the United States of America still exist.

MC Chris – “Fett’s Vette”

The guy behind the Aqua Teen Hunger Force theme song takes on the jetpack-wearing bounty hunter.

Mocean Worker – “Boba Fett”

Philly drum ‘n’ bass producer Mocean Worker dropped this tribute to Boba Fett at the tail end of the jungle revolution in 1999.

Gluecifer – “Obi Damned Kenobi”

These Norwegian hard rockers speculate that Obi Wan has a tumour.

2 Skinnee J’s – “Irresistible Force”

Your world may be better for resisting this nerd rap force.

Matthew Good Band – “Generation X-Wing”

The best we can tell this song has nothing to do with Star Wars. But we remember MGB did it, at least.

Pepper – “Stormtrooper”

For a group of Sublime-alikes this song actually has a bit of unexpected gravitas.

High Adventure – “The Way Of Qui-Gon Jinn”

Is this a parody? We don’t know.
