The Toronto Raptors' Drake Night offers everyone their moment of awkward-dancing fame.

When a whole city and its corporate demigods decide to concentrate all cultural capital in one individual, strange things start to happen, especially when that individual rocks a ski jump fade on the daily. A city’s basketball stadium, for instance, might think it’s a good idea to build a promotional, glowing cube based on one of their global ambassador’s music videos, and let the public dance in it. William Gibson, reading this story: “Gaaah!” *tears up draft of new novel*

Ahead of Drake Night at tonight’s Raptors vs. Cavaliers game, the Air Canada Centre has installed a colour-morphing light box straight out of the “Hotline Bling” video, where anyone can show off their calculatedly-awkward for-maximum-viral-impact dance moves. Oh well, beats last month’s golden sculpture of Kyle Lowry’s lost body fat, anyway.

The gleaming hypercube is set up just outside of the ACC’s Gate One until 7:30 tonight, so what are you waiting for? Get down there and do the Tennis Champ, and then wonder why she doesn’t call you on your cellphone. In case you’re worried about looking uncool, don’t worry, Toronto City Councilor Norm Kelly already raised that particular bar, and you’re unlikely to clear it.
