The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, and Drake are our national music ambassadors.

In a trend mirroring the women’s basketball team at the 2015 Pan Am Games and the War of 1812, Canadians have overtaken the American competition on the Billboard Hot 100.

For the very first time in 60 years of reporting from the U.S. singles chart, Canadian artists have claimed the top four spots. These include The Weeknd’s “The Hills” in peak position, followed by Justin Bieber’s “What Do You Mean?”, Drake’s “Hotline Bling”, and The Weeknd once again with “Can’t Feel My Face.” The number nine spot has also been taken by Pickering, Ontario Vine star Shawn Mendes’ “Stitches.”

Canada hasn’t seen this much representation on the Billboard Hot 100 since 1998. In the year of Titanic, Céline Dion could do no wrong and she topped the chart with her likely long forgotten R. Kelly collab “I’m Your Angel”. That was followed by Deborah Cox’s “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here” (shrug) in second, and Shania Twain’s “From This Moment On” (with its bindi-sporting video) at number four.

October’s Billboard-topping hits have already earned a few tributes with varying degrees of coolness. Gaze into the abyss of a segway dance routine set to Bieber, and listen to the Erykah Badu’s amazing as always reinvention of Drake.
