He hopes you take these album covers at Face Value.

It’s a good week for fans of weathered, craggy faces

Just when you thought we’d reached peak ruggedness, along comes the news that ’80s pop superstar Phil Collins will be re-issuing all of his solo albums with brand new versions of the album art featuring him as he looks now, at age 64. Starting in November with Face Value and Both Sides, you’ll be able to enjoy re-mastered versions of Collins’ synth-heavy hits like, uh, “Can’t Turn Back the Years” and “Behind the Lines.”

Along with the new Dorian Gray style reminders of mortality and the inevitable triumph of death, the re-issues will feature unreleased demos and live performances alongside each of the albums’ original, now re-mastered, tracks. Take a look at some of the new album art below:

Gotta admit, it takes a certain kind of courage to present huge, close-up photos of your face to the public at age 64. Phil’s obviously acquired some wisdom about the futility of vanity since his glory days. “I shall grow old, and horrible, and dreadful. But this picture will remain always young.” – Phil Collins reviewing the album art for No Jacket Required in 1985.

Can’t wait to see the new Brother Bear re-issue art.
