Worst of all, he was hungover.

Joakim Brodén, the aggressively facial-haired frontman of Swedish metal group Sabaton is currently in the midst of his own Terry Fox/Forrest Gump style journey. This marathon of dopes is actually the result of a drunken bet he lost with his bandmates, with the loser forced to walk from their hometown of Falun to the Trondheim Metal Fest in Norway.

According to the Google Maps calculations from a Blabbermouth piece on this story, the hard road between Sabaton shows is around 520 km (323 miles) with an estimated time of 107 hours to take the sole train. Thankfully, the festival doesn’t start until October 1.

Brodén powered through 10 hours on the first day of his trip, but delivered the understatement that his lack of proper footwear (read: combat boots?) “wasn’t exactly ideal.” Now that he’s switched over to a pair of running shoes (read: these?) he’s ready to complete his pilgrimage. “It started out almost as a joke, but it evolved to be quite serious,” said Brodén. “Now I will take a few days rest. I have made contact with some fans via Facebook, who have provided me with food and shelter. And I do not walk such long stretches of time now. I walk between four and eight hours a day.”

Fans can follow along with the metal marathon in Brodén’s video diary. Watch part one below:
