ISIS propaganda paired with popular song lyrics is perfectly disarming.
If there’s one thing that the leaders of ISIS/ISIL/Daesh/The Caliphate U Love 2 Hate fear more than Kurdish YPG victories or American airstrikes, it’s cheeky first-world social media feeds taking them to task with pop culture.
Well, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi better Bakr the hell up, because there’s a new Twitter account in town, and it’s taking no prisoners… when it comes to ridiculing the extremist group with song lyrics. You’re welcome, everyone!
The @ISIS_Karaoke Twitter account takes the novel step of pairing images of Salafi jihadists, usually from their own propaganda videos, with captions of popular song lyrics. According to a Buzzfeed exposé, the account is a run by a shadowy figure known only as “Jimmy”, who said that he started the account because “Mel Brooks once said something about laughing at the barbaric (in his case the Nazis) and I guess that’s all I’m doing really.” See some examples of Jimmy’s work below:
Looks like fun! Can I try? Hmm…I bet Gangstarr’s “The Militia” would do the trick! Haha, this oughta show ’em!
Uh oh… harder than it looks, I guess.
