It's a risky move but will save time and money for low-run releases.

From FUBAR to The Dudes to “the exceptional group of people” that inspired this rap video, Calgary has an ongoing toast for the dirtbags. Now, Cowtown-based vinyl pressing company Canada Boy has introduced a special offer with its target market in mind.

The “Dirtbag Special” features three different tiers for 12″ vinyl orders with low runs suited to a smaller artist or label. Bring home 300 LPs with labels and packaging for $1,899, 200 for $1,649, or 100 for just $1,299. These costs include tax and shipping. Hells yeah!

As an additional incentive in the era of ultra-slow vinyl turnarounds, Canada Boy offers the option of skipping the test pressing step. For the layperson, a test pressing is a copy of the vinyl release sent out before the full run is completed to ensure there are no sound quality issues or other defects. It’s a risky move, but the Calgary company ensure that their team of experts will test out record orders themselves before pressing begins.

We’ll let Canada Boy’s commanding officer Dean Reid (no, not that Deaner) explain the Dirtbag Special in his own words:

Have you ever spent a whole weekend soundproofing your dad’s garage only to have the cops show up 30 seconds into your first song? I have. Have you ever gotten on stage only to hear your lead guitar player announce to the crowd “does anyone have a pick I can borrow?” Been there.

Have you ever boiled your bass strings the night before a gig because you didn’t have enough money to buy new ones? Yep.

Have you ever spent three weeks frantically jamming for your first gig ever, only to play to an audience of four people, all of whom were your friends that came to help set up? Hells yeah you did.

Those dirtbag days were the best days of my life.

Trust in the power of the Dirtbag.
