Purr over Run the Jewels' cat sound effects remix album

Last October, the righteous rap duo of Killer Mike and El-P concocted a wonderfully absurd plan to remix their album Run the Jewels 2 using nothing but cat sounds. Profits from the crowdfunded release will go to the families of Eric Garner and Michael Brown. Now, the first track from the project has hit the ground like a jingly toy full of catnip for hip-hop heads and tumblr teens alike.

“Meowrly”, a cat-scratched remix of the song “Early”, was premiered on Run the Jewels’ Beats1 radio show. It features production and guest vocals from Boots, who shares a name with my family’s Lhasa Apso but is also an upcoming artist in his own right, previously contributing to Beyonce’s self-titled album.

Christmas is still months away, but Meow the Jewels may arrive just in time to replace your Jingle Cats CD collection.
