Now you can finally ventilate some aliens as your favourite rap duo.

Run The Jewels are already the most beloved band among self-described “woke” nerds, so it makes total, brand synergizing sense that they’d eventually crop up as playable video game characters. Too bad it had to be in a by-the-numbers, generic shooter like Gears of War 4, though.

Both Killer Mike and El-P lent their likenesses and their voices to their counterparts in Microsoft’s popular Xbox and PC shooter, and are fully playable in the game’s multiplayer Horde and Versus game modes. Get ready for some highly-refined marketing speak, straight from the mouth of Microsoft:

“The brotherhood that Killer Mike and El-P represent as Run the Jewels perfectly matches the soul of Gears, which at its core is about that brotherhood and never fighting alone.”

Uh huh. You’re absolutely right, this band known for their highly-political, incendiary songs “perfectly match the soul of” your game about beefcakes shouting about juice and ventilating alien craniums.

“Wow! My favourite rappers, in my favourite game, for free!” you could be forgiven for thinking, if you’ve conveniently forgotten what the video game industry does best in 2016: vacuum your wallet dry long after you’ve actually purchased the game. The downloadable content that includes the Run The Jewels avatars will run you $18.99 USD, but at least you’ll get some new maps and emblems out of the deal.

Watch El-P and Killer Mike act suitably impressed as they witness their characters for the first time:

Call me when Gears matches NBA Jam’s real-world character roster.
