Chuck Blazevic of You’ll Never Get To Heaven adds a spectral touch.

Halifax/Paris duo Hey Mother Death were a highlight of last month’s OBEY Convention festival. Now, the slinkily seductive minimal wavers are gearing up for an official release of their Highway EP from Toronto’s Paper Bag Records.

To help set the stage for the pair’s grand unveiling, Chuck Blazevic (a.k.a. Dreamsploitation and one half of the stargazing electro-pop project You’ll Never Get to Heaven) has delivered a mood-inducing remix of Hey Mother Death’s song “The Hills.” Here, ghostly vocals moan throughout a melody abstracted into pulsating synths, crybaby guitars, and subtly popping white noise static. If the bass notes remind you of Angelo Badalamenti’s theme from Twin Peaks, you’re not alone.

Hey Mother Death’s Highway hits the shelves on July 10. The duo will perform at the label’s PAPER100 event at Lee’s Palace in Toronto this Thursday, June 18, along with an in-store appearance at Tiny Record Shop on the same day.
