The Dog Day frontman's surrealist-noir short stars Hey Mother Death's Laurence Strelka.

Halifax’s Seth Smith is best beloved as the frontman of slack-rock staples Dog Day and has recently branched out into electronic soundscapes with a Chad VanGaalen collaboration. Smith’s experience behind the camera began with some lo-fi/high-concept music videos, then bumped up to his first feature film, 2012’s Lowlife. This swampy fever dream screened in various settings across the country before being named by the Atlantic Film Festival as “the most original feature debut in East Coast cinematic history.”

I Am Coming To Paris To Kill You is the latest effort of Smith’s production company CUT/OFF/TAIL. The 10-minute neo-noir stars Laurence Strelka of the seductive minimal wave duo Hey Mother Death, who has also served as an understudy of art-house legend Alejandro Jodorowsky. With a look of pure glazed-eyed horror, Strelka plays a drug-addled woman hijacking the camper van vacation of a family of bowlers in her pursuit of another kidnapper. The film also features the titular unreleased murder ballad from Timber Timbre.

Before its premiere next Tuesday at the Toronto After Dark festival’s screening of Gridlocked, get a tantalizing tease of I Am Coming to Paris to Kill You below.
