Class is back in session on Netflix and Family Channel.

We were heartbroken to hear the news last week that Canadian television institution Degrassi had been cancelled after 14 seasons. We reminisced over its original iteration’s most memorable song and spent time with its more recent New Generation‘s fictional musical arsenal. Today, the sobbing stops — Degrassi is not dead after all.

Netflix and Family Channel will be picking the series up for 20 new episodes starting in 2016. The new series will be called Next Class, and a lot of the current cast will be reprising their roles, accoring to EW.

“We are energized and excited to work with Family Channel as we tell stories for the new post-millennial teen cohort known as Generation Z, most of whom weren’t even born when Degrassi returned in 2001,” said co-creator and executive producer Linda Schuyler in a statement. We couldn’t agree more, unless we knew what any of those buzzwords meant.

LONG LIVE DEGRASSI.
