METZ, Cadence Weapon, Tegan and Sara, Fucked Up, Austra and more appear as playable characters.

Perfected the art of the finger tap guitar solo and wondering where to focus your skills next? LOUD on Planet X is an arcade-style indie music game using the same hands-on playing style of hyperspeed tapping to the beat while blasting back at invading extraterrestrials.

Nine confirmed artists including METZ, Cadence Weapon, Tegan and Sara, Fucked Up, Austra, Metric, Lights, and July Talk all appear as cartoonized characters with two playable songs each. Don’t be fooled by the avatar-sized stature of these CanCon killers and their super cute miniature instruments, though. Alongside tiny tattoos and leather jackets, each act packs various weapons such as speakers, strobe lights, fog machines, amps, and can even call in the help of muscle-bound bouncers. When Damian Abraham shreds his yellow shirt like the Hulkster, those green googly-eyed globs are done for.

Toronto studio Pop Sandbox Productions (who’ve made other games we love) have gathered support from partners (like us!), sponsors, funders, and a star-studded cast, but require a final financial level-up. In a Kickstarter campaign launching today, they offer rewards such as musical scores from members of Fucked Up and Broken Social Scene, alien green 7″ records, and a t-shirt designed by the great Michael DeForge. Watch the trailer above, and read more about the game and kick in your support at its Kickstarter page.

AUX has partnered with LOUD on Planet X to help promote the launch of the game. Stay tuned for more info in the coming weeks!
