Tired of the Beck/Beyoncé Grammy drama? Yeah, us too. But lost in all of the endless bickering about Kanye West was the fact that Beck’s dad David Campbell has worked with Beyoncé before. Not recently, mind you, but Campbell is credited with string arrangements and conducting on Beyoncé’s second studio album, B’Day.

So no, he’s not one of the 30+ songwriters or producers credited on Beyoncé, so you won’t have to update your dope memes or anything, but the point is here… small world?

The album he did work on was nominated for five Grammys — spread across two years, which is odd — and won one for Best Contemporary R&B Album. You know who was also nominated for a Grammy that year, but lost? Beck.

For some context, Beck’s dad is a pretty well regarded arranger and composer. He’s been working in music and movies since the 70s and the list of collaborators he’s worked with is never-ending: Carole King, the Beatles, Cat Stevens, Bon Jovi, Green Day…

…He’s worked with BBMak. He’s worked with Lit. He did the strings on that Alien Ant Farm album. He did the strings on Aerosmith’s “Crazy.”

Turns out Beck’s dad rules. Sales of albums he’s worked on are approaching the billions, and he’s been involved on over 400 Gold and Platinum selling releases. Without him, Ricky Martin’s “Shake Your Bon-Bon” would never have been the same.

Oh, and he’s Canadian. He was born in Toronto, though he grew up in the U.S.[h/t Reddit]
