"How VIP do we gotta get?"

Just in case you really needed a powerful metaphor for hip-hop officially usurping rock music’s top spot on the cultural ladder: Legendary Beatle, knight and Emoji artisan Paul McCartney was reportedly denied entry into rapper Tyga’s Grammy party. Cue: a bunch of those “what happened to REAL LYRICS?!” jpegs with “Maybe I’m Amazed” and “Bouncin’ On My Dick” side-by-side.

At least it wasn’t just one legendary rocker who was shut out: Beck and Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins were also snubbed when they tried to enter the Tyga-hosted Grammys afterparty at the Argyle in Hollywood.

For his part, Tyga said on Twitter that he wasn’t aware of McCartney’s presence outside the party, and would certainly have let him in:

Watch this once-in-a-lifetime rebuffing courtesy of TMZ below, especially notable for Sir Paul exclaiming “How VIP do we gotta get? We need another hit!”
