CBC 'Q' listeners are scared of hip-hop and slang and Shad

CBC’s award winning Q is in a bit of a transition period after, well… you know, and has been experimenting with guests hosts the past few weeks. After network incumbents like Tom Power and Piya Chattopadhyay took the reigns in the first broadcasts post-Jian, CBC decided to play it differently, enlisting Fucked Up’s Damian Abraham, comedian Candy Palmater and, this week, rapper Shad.
And one day into his tenure, Q fans are a little uncomfortable with the academic MC. Specifically, they can’t get behind his “dope” vocabulary and “office-inappropriate” hip-hop.
The worst of it was naturally found on Twitter.
Tre Mission is, apparently, “inappropriate.”
He said dope?! Whoa. Rightfully, one user pointed out that Ghomeshi himself started the show off with similar slang.
Other listeners couldn’t wait to pronounce the ol’ adage that rap is, in fact, crap.
“Music.”
“Music.”
Of course it wasn’t all bad. While many listeners are still clamouring for Piya Chattopadhyay to take the helm back full time, many were impressed by Shad’s easy-going nature and surprising competence for his first day in an imposing position.
