Check out our “Trending” Playlist for this week. Put on the player and read a bit about each song below.

1. “The Night We Met” by Lord Huron

I’ve listened to Lord Huron‘s 2012 album “Lonesome Dreams” over a thousands times I think and I’ve been anticipating new material from the indie-folk band for months now. They teased us with an album trailer recently, but this week “The Night We Met” slowly worked it’s way on to the blogs. Just as the waltzy “Ends Of The Earth” leads off that album, a similar sounding track eases us into the new music we’re going to hear from this incredible band this year.

2. “Human” by Kagu

About a year ago, I featured a track from buzzing Australian band Snakadaktal, who at the time were poised for a big year based on the reaction they were getting internationally. But sometimes good things don’t last and the band broke up, leaving co-vocalist Sean Heathcliff to reinvent himself as Kagu. I think that was the best thing he could have done, as evidenced by the first few songs I’ve heard from his new project.

3. “Run” by COIN

I’m such a sucker for a catchy melody. “Run,” the latest from Nashville ‘90s alt revivalists COIN, is full to the brim of hooks, sing-along choruses and memorable lyrics. If you’re a fan of bands like Phoenix or The Wombats, you’ll definitely dig this track.

4. “In The Dark” by Matt Woods

UK’s Matt Woods could be a shining star, although I don’t want to jinx it. It looks as if he’s only got one track online, but it’s getting an incredible reception. For fans of future-soul or a strong vocal in the vein of Sam Smith, check out “In The Dark”.

5. “Elastic Heart” by BLVTH (SIA Cover)

I’ll admit, I do miss discovering a lot of good music out there. For SIA‘s “Elastic Heart,” I finally jumped on the bandwagon after seeing the incredible video for the song. Fine, I’m late to the party, but at least I’m first on this BLVTH remix. A darker spin on the original, definitely worth a spin.

6. “Halcyon Birds” by Broken Back

I was surprised to learn that the band Broken Back was Parisian, they just sounded like they were from anywhere but France. Getting a fair amount of comparisons to bands like Milky Chance (probably the raspy vocal delivery), check out this track then take a listen to their fun cover of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love.”

7. “Made My Mind Up” by Mikal Cronin

You can always count on Merge Records for quality releases, specifically in the upcoming release for power-pop specialist Mikal Cronin. “Made My Mind Up” is sunny, bright and probably good for your 2015 summer mixtape.

8. “Falling Short” by Låpsley

I can’t ignore the UK hype any longer for British singer-songwriter Holly Lapsley Fletcher (known as Låpsley). Sometimes you’ve just gotta take your time with Hype; the unwarranted always disappears, the great artists always stick around.

9. “Bad, Bad, Bad” by LANY

You know just as much about Los Angeles-based electronic trio LANY as I do. I discovered their track “Bad, Bad, Bad” by accident today, but I’m glad I did. The group have been embracing soundcloud since April, incredibly amassing over 4 million listens so far. Put these guys on your radar.
