Certain Slayer fans argue that Tom Araya, Kerry King and co. haven’t done anything redeemable since 2001’s God Hates Us All. And while that’s certainly a valid opinion, we respectfully disagree—yes, musically, the band hasn’t done much to maintain their status in the Big Four, but so long as they keep on saving adorable little kittens, we couldn’t care less.

When we first heard that Slayer saved a kitten—and named it Gypsy—we assumed it was at the hands of Araya, a notoriously sweet, kind-hearted man. Not so. Instead, it was the imposing, head-tattooed King who made a new friend (ahem, “fur-end”) this weekend in Indianapolis.

After visiting a city steak house—at the recommendation of King—the Slayer crew encountered a homeless man, who offered to sell a kitten for a dollar. The band evidently loves a deal, but also noticed that the cat was freezing. So they scooped up the cat, and even let it spend a night on their tour bus—Slayer’s currently on tour with Suicidal Tendencies.

The band’s publicist, Heidi Robinson-Fitzgerald, explained the situation to Nuvo.net. “Last night Kerry [King] and some of the crew went to dinner at Kerry’s favorite steak house in Indy, St. Elmo’s Steak House,” she said. “Afterwards, the assistant tour manager, Jess [Cortese] saw a homeless man on the street who offered up this little kitten for a dollar. The kitten apparently was freezing so Jess took it, slept with her in her bunk on the bus and went to the venue with her today, hanging out. One of the runners knew someone who wanted a kitten, so the little guy now has anew home where he or she currently is.”

So yes: Slayer loves cats. But cats also love Slayer—check the vid below for proof.
