SCION SESSIONS: Watch a dancing tour of Calgary in Dominic Pierce's new "Vertical Feel" video

We’ve long been fans of label Close to Modern, who, with each successive release, have been destroying Calgary’s reputation as a cowboy town. The digital-only label has been curating the best from the city’s forward-looking electronic scene, and they’ve had a string of stunning releases—including efforts from techno duo Sanctums (who once gave us a tour of the West Coast beat-based scene), future R&B act Beach Season, and most recently, a soulful EP from the brotherly duo of Shaani Cage. Indeed, the CTM crew have been wonderfully prolific, and with each passing release, they’re showing us a side of Alberta we’ve never known.
All of which brings us to Dominic Pierce, a DJ and producer who’s had his fingerprints all over CTM. Known for his chilled-out take on deep house, Pierce just dropped his Scion Sessions video for “Vertical Feel,” a soulful electro track that walks us through Pierce’s hometown—Calgary. Presented by Scion Sessions in tandem with Sled Island—who just announced their 2015 early bird passes—the VHS-quality video follows a Calgary man through a dance tour of Cowtown—with stops on the neon-lit Peace Bridge Langevin Bridge [thank you for clarifying, kind Calgarians] and Inglewood vinyl emporium Recordland. Consider us addicted.
Check the video for “Vertical Feel” above. The song is part of Scion Sessions x Sled Island’s Get to Know series, which is a 7-inch set also featuring music from Fist City, Lab Coast, and Mark Mills.
