When it’s time to reflect on year-end lists, we often praise bands, albums, and labels. Less common, though, is the praise for the cities—the communities—that produce them. Travel around, and you’ll realize that cities aren’t simple physical barriers surrounding culture—they often inform, and communicate with, culture itself. So, without further ado, here are our favourite music-making cities in 2014. (Note: We’re a Canadian publication, so obviously, we have an affinity for things close to home.)
