Remember Crazy Town? Back in the waning days of rap-metal, the band scored a no.1 hit with “Butterfly,” a soft-rap opus that had sugarbabies’ hearts a-flutterin.’ (Like butterflies, get it?) Back then, theirs was a style all their own: They combined Fred Durst’s b-boy tattoo sleeves with LFO’s pants-zipper turntable scratches and Bif Naked’s eyeliner. And we loved them for it.

At their peak, they released 1999’s The Gift of Game, with “Butterfly” sampling fellow nip-ring enthusiasts the Red Hot Chili Peppers—both bands would also tour together. But the band disappeared shortly thereafter; they released Darkhorse in 2002, and after shuffling through a host of members—Rust Epique, Faydoe Deelay, Squirrel, DJ AM, and DJ Adam 12 all spent time in the mighty CT—the band left the spotlight.

But that doesn’t mean that Crazy Town were finished. In fact, singer Epic (not to confused with ex-member Rust Epique), rapper Shifty Shellshock, guitarist Deadsy, bassist Dax, and drummer Kevin Kapler are back and better than ever, and they’re prepping a new album, The Brimstone Sluggers. And today, we heard their first single.

It’s called “Megatron,” and it is fan-fucking-tastic. Riding along a beat directly lifted from Gary Glitter’s “Rock and Roll Pt. II,” Crazy Town is at their peak, blending Jock Jams II with Kottonmouth Kings-worthy rapping. It sounds like Linkin Park copulating with CeCe Peniston. It sounds like the Transplants riding shotgun with Technotronic. It sounds fucking incredible.

Don’t believe us, though. We’ll let the song do the talking—check “Megatron” below.
