As far as post South of Heaven Slayer albums go, Christ Illusion wasn’t terrible. And when you’re up against albums like Diabolus in Musica and Undisputed Attitude, that’s good enough. But here’s the point: Christ Illusion was a pretty strong snapshot of its time, and its post-9/11 attitude bore quite an influence on young metalheads.

On Reddit, one such metalhead writes how one of its songs helped him pass his English exam. An ESL student, he said he was asked on his exam to write out an example of hate speech.

Imagine you are a terrorist, and you want to threaten your enemies with a message. What would you say?

He panicked. Then, remembering the last album he’d listened to before the test—Christ Illusion, he ended up writing out the lyrics to “Jihad.”

Track 5 on the great album Christ Illusion is called “Jihad”, and it contains a short hate speech at the end. Since I was already listening to it for a few days in “repeat” mode, I was able to think of most of this speech and write it down.

“Teacher was very impressed, even read it out loud in class,” wrote redditor norGster, adding that it was disturbing to hear aloud. “I was just happy that I listen to metal.”

It’s plagiarism, but it still makes for one hell of a story.

Be optimistic, happy, and calm
Show no fear or anxiety
Smile at the face of God
And your reward will be eternity
Holy warriors
Your patience will be justified
Everything is for him
You must not confront the animal before you kill it
Strike as champions at the heart of the non-believers
Strike above the neck and at all extremities
For this is a point of no return for Almighty God
God will give bahishti to his faithful servants
When you reach ground zero you will have killed the enemy
The Great Satan!
