Yesterday, we told you that not a single album has gone platinum yet this year, and that doesn’t seem likely to change.

This morning, we learned that 8 seconds of noise accidentally released by Taylor Swift shot to the top of the Canadian iTunes charts, and suddenly it all made sense.

The third track on Taylor Swift’s 1989 was accidentally set live on iTunes yesterday, but not properly; instead of what we’d expect to be a delightful pop romp, fans were treated to less than ten seconds of noise.

Ironically, the funny part isn’t that fans were willing to shell out money for the mistake, but that the song actually topped two other Taylor Swift songs rounding out the chart’s top 3: “Shake it Off” and the newly released “Welcome to New York.”

1989 is due out on October 27th, and is largely believed to be the last bit of hope for record sales in 2014. Her last album, 2012’s Red, sold more than one million copies in its opening week, making it the fastest selling album since Britney Spears’ 2002 release Oops!… I Did It Again. To date, it has sold more than 6 million copies worldwide.
