When’s the last time you were Rick Roll’d? For us, the infamous bait-and-switch jumped the shark when Astley himself jumped on it at the 2008 Macy’s Day Parade. Admit it, he totally pwned you.

But eventually, Rick Astley’s lawyers took over. Today, the song’s official upload has more than 84,000,000 views, plenty more than user cotter548’s RickRoll’d upload.

Today, though, marked the end of an era: Multiple sites are saying the original prank has been taken offline.

The Daily Mail:

It is a dark day for the World Wide Web.

The popular YouTube clip that for years has tricked people into watching a Rick Astley music video is no more – the video titled ‘RockRoll’d’ has been removed from YouTube.

Consequence of Sound:

Sadly, nothing lasts forever — not even the world’s greatest meme. As Billboard reports, the original “RickRoll” video from 2007 has been pulled by YouTube in several countries, including the United States.

Billboard:

YouTube has restricted access to a seven-year-old video upload that spawned the still-popular RickRoll meme, in which people trick others into watching Astley shimmy in his cheesy “Never Gonna Give You Up” clip.

What a bummer. YouTube are such party poopers! They’ve had their full supply of Hatorade. Just look at all these sources. It’s times like these we have to ask ourselves the tough questions, like “Why?” and….

YOU SURE, BUDS?
