From collegiate classes based around permanent poetical potential to the deliberate glossing over of most of his so-so discography, Tupac Shakur has been mythologized to an incredible extent since his untimely death.

There’s a reason for that, of course. Talented far beyond his output, Shakur was one of the few gangster rappers who broke through the stereotype. A momma’s boy looking to build on his acting career, the sky seemed to be the limit before he was gunned down in Las Vegas. Tupac was cool as fuck before he died. After it? All bets were off, and this new bit of information should only hope to enforce that.

“He looked at me, and he took a breath to get the words out, and he opened his mouth,” said Chris Carroll, a cop and first responder on the Shakur crime scene. “And then the words came out: ‘Fuck you.'”

“I talked to the cop who rode in the ambulance with him,” Carroll continued. “He said Tupac never came out of it, and he never said anything at the hospital.”

And there you have it. With his final breaths, Tupac Shakur let out what hip-hop heads have been shouting for decades: fuck. the. police. [H/T Rolling Stone]
