The 2014 Polaris Music Prize season starts strong this year with the announcement of the inaugural recipients of the Banff-Polaris Residency, Shad and Holy Fuck, who will collaborate on a joint single.

The artists—both previous Polaris short listers chosen jointly by the Banff Centre and Polaris Music Prize—will retreat to Banff Centre’s mountainside recording studio later this summer. The collaborative results will live on 500 limited-edition vinyl 7″ singles, produced in partnership with Scion Sessions and released for free in September. The sessions will also become a documentary, produced in collaboration with the Banff Centre, your pals right here at AUX, and Scion Sessions.

“The Banff Centre is a dream home for creative spirits of all disciplines,” said Steve Jordan, Director and Founder, Polaris Music Prize. “We have pined to facilitate a collaboration with Short List alumni for years and are honoured that this perfect venue is partnering with us to make this dream a reality. We are hopeful that this become an annual a tradition.”

For their part, the Banff Centre is also obviously excited. “We’re delighted to welcome Shad and Holy Fuck to The Banff Centre,” said Carolyn Warren, Vice President, arts at The Banff Centre. “It’s our hope that in this highly creative and supportive environment these talented individuals will thrive and I look forward to hearing the results of their time here.”

On Canada Day, Shad and Holy Fuck will also be joined by previous short listers A Tribe Called Red to kickoff the Banff Summer Arts Festival, presented by Polaris Music Prize and hosted by Steve Jordan.

The Polaris Music Prize 2014 Long List will be announced on June 19 in Calgary, and the Short List will be announced July 15 in Toronto. The Gala takes place at the Carlu in Toronto on September 22.
