We made it! AUX is hanging out in Texas at SXSW for the week, and even with a travel day that started at 4 a.m., heading straight from the Austin airport to the Canadian Blast BBQ, which we were so excited to be part of, was exactly what we needed.

Of course, last night’s fatal car crash can’t help but have cast a shadow over the festival. We were nowhere near the scene when it occurred, but hearing the news via Twitter was shocking. We send our love to the victims and thanks to the festival and first responders for their work on scene and in respectfully figuring out how to see SXSW through.

In that spirit, we bring you back to the best parts of yesterday. With performances from The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer, Andy Shauf, Saidah Baba Talibah, The Darcys, A Tribe Called Red, and the Darcys, new music in Canada was well represented, and well received. We can’t help but think that our reputation precedes us, especially when you overhear things like “I only pretend I’m Canadian when I want another drink ticket.” We love you, Texas.

Be sure to follow us on Instagram and subscribe on YouTube for daily fun shit from the festival. We promise not to be too annoying. In the meantime, check out some photos from the Canadian Blast BBQ below.

AUX’s Sam Sutherland interviews the Harpoonist and the Axe murderer just after they kicked off the BBQ.

Saidah Baba Talibah tears up the tent.

AUX’s Chayne Japal interviews A Tribe Called Red. The group has mad mic skills by the way.

…And even in the harsh daylight, Tribe pack a room and make it move. No easy goddamn feat.

Grand Analog cap their interview with mocking of Sam Sutherland with their impression of him. A++++. Please see the video below for full context.

Andy Shauf channels softer vibes midday.

PERFECT DAY FOR A BBQ SEE YOU NEVER, CANADA.
