11 musical Toronto Blue Jays moments to celebrate Canada's team

For Canadian baseball fans, each season comes with renewed hope: No, we’re not expecting the Toronto Blue Jays to repeat 1992 and 1993. But can Toronto at least live up to the expectations the team built last off-season, when they added R.A. Dickey, Mark Buehrle, Melky Cabrera, et al? Can they actually capitalize on their championship window—or was it ever open in the first place? We’re certainly hoping so. And, in anticipation of everything the season may hold, we put together this list of 10 musical Blue Jays moments.

The Blue Jays 1977 theme

Let’s go back. Way back. The year was 1977. Ernie Whitt was the Blue Jays’ catcher. And they released this very dated, very adorable theme song, declaring that “the fans all over Ontario are the best in the major leagues.”

Keith Hampshire and the Bat Boys’ “OK Blue Jays”

Arguably the most famed of all Toronto baseball songs, “OK Blue Jays” was performed by Keith Hampshire backed by an enormous backing band named the Bat Boys. It was released in 1983; by 1986, it was certified gold.

P. Diddy and Skylar Grey’s “I’m Coming Home”

Used as a rah-rah promo for the team, “I’m Coming Home” had plenty of lines that fit the Blue Jays. “Let the rain wash away all the pain of yesterday,” sings Grey. Jays acolytes can surely relate.

Metric’s “Stadium Love”

No one writes big-time arena rock quite like Metric, so it’s only fitting that they memorialize Toronto’s, uh, big-time arena.

Feel That Way Again

Part of being a Toronto fan is hearkening back to our happiest years—namely, 1992 and 1993. “Feel That Way” perfectly captures the city’s baseball nostalgia.

The Coca-Cola Tribute to the World Series champs

In the early ’90s, Coke’s “Always Coca Cola” jingle was ubiquitous. The brand adapted the song—in Michael Jackson “Black Or White”-era style—to celebrate the ’92 and ’93 teams, and God, is it glorious.
