Cynical as we are about band reunions—yo Pixies, we love you, but give it rest—we couldn’t help but get excited for Field Trip 2014. In an announcement this morning, the Arts and Crafts summer festival announced that they were bringing back two Canadian all-timers: Indie-rock supergroup Broken Social Scene and post-hardcore legends the Constantines.

Mostly, the news was met with elation—especially for the Cons, whose reunion came out of left field last week. A+C faves (like Interpol, The Darcys, and up-and-comers Reuben and the Dark) and international behemoths (Chvrches and Washed Out) were both included on the roster, and while the fest’s diversity was well-received, not everyone was happy with the lineup.

Especially Stars. And especially outspoken member Torquil Campbell. And no, we’re not kidding about him being outspoken: When you Google his name, this is what shows up.

So, when Campbell discovered that Stars were were left off the Field Trip roster, he was pissed. Especially considering it’s the 10th year anniversary of their career-defining Set Yourself on Fire. So ol’ Torq did what he always does: He took to Twitter.

Here’s how it started, with a salty zinger to both the label and Interpol.

Then, fans chimed in, voicing their support of Stars. When one fan suggested that they could play Field Trip next year, Campbell stated that he was done with the festival.

Fans were disappointed, predictably. Then, they came up with a novel idea: That Stars start their own rival festival to compete with the Broken Social Scene-centric Field Trip.

And surprisingly, Campbell said that, yes, it’d be an excellent idea to start his own festival.

The next thing that happened? Campbell deleted the entire thread. He then updated us with a tweet, stating that he was joking.

Well, we can all at least agree on two things: We’d love to see a Stars-centric festival, and that Field Trip is going to be amazing. Because guy, THE CONSTANTINES.
