Every day, I try to read every email in my inbox. I’m not sure exactly when the overflow started, but the amount of messages from publicists, bands, newsletters, etc. has absolutely skyrocketed. I’ve adapted a form of skimming that I believe really works.

Within a quick look at the message, I’ll be able to tell (without hearing anything) if said pitched song is going to be something I’d like or not. Is there a formula for it? Possibly. I do notice patterns. One characteristic that I really try to stick to, though, is reading personalized messages (compared to blanket “Dear <<First Name>>” campaigns). If someone took the time out of their day to write me, then I’ll give them more than a quick look and figure out if their music is something I’m into.

That’s how L.A. duo Satchmode got on my radar. A simple link to Soundcloud for their song, “Old Fears”, from their debut EP Collide (set for release in Jan. 2014).  They possibly knew that I’m a sucker for those minimal electronic sounds, soft vocals, synths and snap-along rhythm of dream-pop.  I knew as I approached the singalong outro of “I wanna do it right this time,” this would be something I’d put online for you. Reminds me of a long lost Junior Boys track.

Take a listen below, then check out the video.
