I had to check the archives to see if I’d posted this track already, as it’s been in my rotation for quite a while. It’s also a go-to track to recommend to friends when they’re looking for something different.  In being reminded that the band is currently on the road in Western Canada with The Belle Game, I decided to double check that I’d recommended them here.

Vancouver, B.C.’s electro-dance group Bear Mountain was started by frontman Ian Bevis and guitarist Kyle Statham, who met at the University of Victoria. As they began collaborating on various styles of music, their bedroom project grew bigger, eventually adding Bevis’ identical twin brother, drummer Greg Bevis, and “visual and creative director” Kenji Rodriguez to the fold. Together, they’ve created an alternative sound that blends live instrumentation with a dancing heartbeat.  Think lush synth sounds and chopped vocal samples set to tropical drum beats and house-drenched kicks. Has that got you interested?

Try out “Congo”.

Check their tour dates with the Belle Game below:

11/3 Winnipeg, MB – Union Hall
11/4 Saskatoon, SK – Amigo’s
11/5 Edmonton, AB – Pawn Shop
11/6 Calgary, AB – Broken City
11/9 Vancouver, BC – Vogue
