This Saturday Night Live promo shot approximates what this cover band could look like

They work it well, but for better or worse Arcade Fire are up there with Broken Social Scene when it comes to perpetuating excess-to-success with massive, multi-member band lineups. Following the successes of albums like You Forgot It In People and Funeral saw bands across the country adding extra keyboardists and members that do nothing but smash a floor tom.

Found on Craigslist, this cover band brings that all back full circle, then lights that circle on fire. You think an 8-piece is a lot? This in-progress 20-ish piece Arcade Fire cover band laughs at your puny octets.

Writing a post that bills itself as “POST 1 OF 2,” an enterprising Toronto guitarist is looking for, in addition to the usual rock band tropes: an organist, accordion, horn section, two violinists, a harpsichordist and “someone who knows what a hurdy gurdy is.”

Not that I’m auditioning, but a hurdy gurdy is a stringed instrument not unlike the violin that’s often characterized by its droning sound and totally hilarious name. Note: I cannot play it.

Here’s the full ad. Shout outs to Consequence of Sound for drawing our attention to it. If we find that second part, we’ll update things here.
