Usually when we talk about the classics, we’re talking about the Rolling Stones or Elvis or whomever. When we talk Classical, we’re going back further, usually to Beethoven or Mozart or any of the other 18th Century composers. And if that’s the case, what the hell do we call this?

Usually when we talk about the classics, we’re talking about the Rolling Stones or The Beatles or Elvis or whomever. When we talk classical, we’re going back further, usually to Beethoven or Mozart or any of the other 18th Century composers. And if that’s the case, what the hell do we call this?

The University of Newcastle’s David Creese recently reconstructed and played an ancient Greek song credited to Seikilos which is more than 2000 years old. He ran through the song on a “canon,” an eight-stringed instrument that Oxford University’s Dr. Armand D’Angour says makes for a deadly accurate performance.

Oddly, it sounds kind of like Bon Iver to us. What do you guys think? Check out the 2000 year old song below, via BBC and Archeology Magazine.
