Billy Corgan the musician is tip-toeing ever closer to life as a full time wrestling promoter with word that he’s about to beef up his stake in the industry by buying Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, the second largest wrestling promotion North America.

If true, Corgan’s going to have an uphill climb on his hands, with TNA suffering some financial misfortunes the last few years against the World Wresting Entertainment juggernaut, but he’s only one of a few rumoured buyers on a list that includes former wrestling figureheads Eric Bischoff and Jeff Jarrett.

Assuming this happens, that would make Corgan the owner of two promotions, including the Resistance Pro Wrestling company he founded in 2011 and, in the years since, has seemingly put as much effort into as new Pumpkins music. Remember that furniture commercial? When was the last time the Smashing Pumpkins did something that self-effacing and fun? The Simpsons?

We’re not sure on the competitive clauses concerning owning two direct competitors, but as wrestling has shown in its prime, there’s no harm in crossing over. Alternative Nation first reported the news, citing a “second hand source” they say is a “key figure” in the TNA sales discussion. We’ll see if this happens.
