I always tell bands that they should make videos to help build their online audience, but it really won’t work unless those videos are creative, stunning, and something that you’ll feel compelled to share with your friends. Case in point: The Paper Kites, all the way from Australia, ended up on my radar because I got hooked on their latest video.

The Paper Kites are an indie folk band from Melbourne, Australia formed in 2009 by Sam Bentley and Christina Lacy while playing local cafes in their hometown. When invited to play a local festival, they decided it was time to expand by adding David Powys, Sam Rasmussen and cousin Josh Bentley. To date, they’ve released two EPs (Woodland EP in 2011, Young North EP in 2012) and one studio album (States which came out this year). The band are known for making great videos, most of which are in the hundreds of thousands of views in youtube. Currently, they’re supporting their North American release of States and are on tour.

So what was the video that put them on my radar? It was for the song “Young” (off States), a video made by Oh Yeah Wow that took seven days to shoot 350+ faces and 10 days to assemble 4000+ photos. Impressive.
