You gotta trust your friends when they tell you about a great song.

The other day, it was so nice to actually talk for the first time to a friend I’ve had since February. We started writing each other about new bands (South Africa to Toronto and back) and haven’t stopped since. Actually, she’s become a contributor on my blog, posting well over 100 times about artists I never would have found on my own. So, all credit goes to Lior for this track, as she tipped me to Ásgeir‘s latest tune “Torrent.”

Ásgeir is a singer-songwriter from Iceland who has had a great response from his debut record Dyrd i daudathogn. He’s become something of an overnight sensation in his country’s music scene, breaking all records to become Iceland’s fastest selling debut album by a domestic artist (faster than Bjork and Sigur Ros). 10 per cenmt of his home country own his record and he’s only 21.  In January of next year, the English language version will be released worldwide as “In The Silence” (out January 27th).  Filled with a deft combination of electronic & organic instrumentation, Ásgeir’s vibrant, airy songs are worth diving into.  Think Bon Iver collaborating with James Blake.

Check out “Torrent”.
