Dave Grohl never stops. After a year that’s seen him work with Joan Jett, Paul McCartney, Queens of the Stone Age and the Rolling Stones, the drummer-turned-frontman also somehow found the time to write a new Foo Fighters album which he tells XFM radio should be out next year.

“We have been in our studio writing and in the past few weeks we’ve written an album, and we are going to make this album in a way no one’s ever done before and we’re pretty excited about it,” he said.

As with most things Foo Fighters, fans should take Grohl’s self-adulating enthusiasm with a grain of salt. We can’t speculate on what they’re doing to make this process as unique as he claims, but it’s likely not far from the process that saw Wasting Light met with a Grammy speech that famously bragged about being recorded to tape; that’s not the norm for a modern rock band, but it’s a far cry from a revolution.

Still, the return of one of rock’s biggest bands is a big deal to many, and that their leading man is palpably stoked on it is important. Spin points out that the rest of the band has been talking about the “crazy innovations” on this record for a while now, and even as Grohl says it’s all “a little ways off,” our curiosities are certainly building.

You’ll hear more on it as we do. Until then, there’s always …Like Clockwork.
