Kanye West turns down American Idol judge job

Every attempt Kanye West has made at controversy in the wake of Yeezus‘ release was apparently all for naught, because angry samples and shout-y raps aside, American Idol still sought him out as a potential judge for its upcoming 13th season.

Unfortunately for them, he said no.

“He didn’t want to go mainstream,” said a source to US Weekly. “He didn’t want to lose any street cred. So he turned it down.”

Kanye West might be riding high on the new heights of his celebrity status thanks to his girlfriend, but the new father of 2-month old North is right to avoid the show. He doesn’t need the money, and what insight can the guy really add? Sure, he’s an impeccable talent and a renowned producer, but next to talents like Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban he’d kind of be out of his element. Plus would a screaming match between those three even be worth it?
