Don't sign your rights away if you don't want to be humiliated.

In terms of nightmare humiliation scenarios, a recording of your bad singing being broadcast nation-wide for the whole world to laugh at ranks right up there with ol’ chestnuts like boner-at-the-chalkboard, or chestnuts-at-the-prom.

It’s understandable, then, that a contestant on the Dutch singing show Idols would go to such lengths in an attempt to keep his bad singing from being seen, and chortled at, by the masses.

Airing on the RTL4 network, Idols is a Dutch knock-off of, yep, you guessed it, Red Shoe Diaries American Idol, in which contestants vie to show off their singing chops and become the Netherlands’ next superstar. Watch the video below and move ahead to the 1:15 mark to see one of the most awkward performances of the Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way” ever aired on TV.

The singer, known only as Mostafa, accused the staff of Idols of deliberately choosing the worst moments of his performance in order to curtail his burgeoning career as a singer-songwriter. He then threatened the show’s production company, Blue Circle, with a 100,000 damages claim.

Well, you probably can guess where this is going: unfortunately for the artist currently known as Mostafa, a Dutch court ruled that he had willingly signed away any rights to his performance to Blue Circle, and he had no legal leg to stand on with regards to his damages claim. The broadcast went ahead as planned on March 23rd, and the court ruling has only been made public this week.

Well, there only thing left to do: let’s Streisand-effect the hell out of this guy! That’ll show him, trying to keep his burning embarrassment away from the prying eyes of the eternal, hungry spectacle! Also, he probably shouldn’t have signed anything while on set if he didn’t want this to happen.
