Ciara cancelled a concert at L.A. gay bar The Factory this weekend, citing contractual obligations with another appearance the following night. Apparently, that alibi didn’t go over well with the folks at The Factory.

Atlanta-born R&B songstress Ciara had two shows booked in Los Angeles this past weekend, one at The Factory (a gay bar) on Friday night, and one to celebrate the L.A. gay pride parade on Saturday night. She cancelled the Friday night appearance last minute, citing contractual obligations with the pride parade appearance. Apparently, that alibi didn’t go over well with the folks at The Factory.

During Ciara’s Saturday Night Performance, a process server representing The Factory stood front row, trying to get Ciara’s attention with a piece of paper. Thinking it was a fan trying to show her something, Ciara took it from her while continuing to sing. After quickly examining the paper, she realized she had been served with legal documents pertaining to a lawsuit, and dropped it. Unfortunately for Ciara, it was too late — once the document enters someone’s hands, the target has been served, and the process server’s job is done. Watch the whole thing go down above.

When you hear the phrase “you got served” at an R&B concert, you’re probably more likely to assume that it’s being used in the context of a cool hip-hop dance battle, and not in terms of a legal dispute. Someone should get the movie rights from Ciara and The Factory owners, and make You Got Served 2: Lawyer Up, the story of a dancer-turned-process server who just wants her chance to shine.
