The whole genre switch-up thing seems to be working well for Snoop Lion — is it possible that R. Kelly could be looking to launch a career in country music?

In a recent interview with Vibe, the unpredictable genius that is Robert Sylvester Kelly talked about the polarizing affects of Trapped In The Closet, his new album (tentatively titled Black Panties), and he even described himself as a musical daredevil: “My whole goal in life was to reach that certain success where people will say, ‘Hey, that guy can do anything. He’s the Evel Knievel of music. He’s jumping over 15 buses!’”

That last quote might make this next piece of news make a bit more sense. When Vibe asked Kells what he’s been working on lately, he told them he’s “really been writing a lot of country songs.” Does this man’s ambition have no limits?

What do you guys think? Could the Chicagoan vocal virtuoso pull off a side career as a country singer and songwriter? Stranger things have happened. I can think of at least five stranger things that have happened during the course of R. Kelly’s career:

1. Trapped In The Closet
2. He peed on a minor
3. He peed on a minor AND FILMED IT.
4. While on tour, he left the stage early “to serve food to patrons at the [McDonalds] drive-thru.”
5. The return of Trapped In The Closet

There’s currently no word if R. Kelly plans to change his name to “Howlin’ R. Kelly.”
